Our Story

Run for Rob is in honour of Robert McCarthy.

Rob dedicated his life to breaking down the stigma surrounding men’s mental health. Beyond being ever reachable to friends and family, he frequently shared videos on his Facebook page documenting his mental health journey, creating a safe space and community where people can see there is no shame in struggling.

In 2019, Rob lost his battle with depression, but he left behind an incredible legacy. Rob’s passion in life was to help people and to teach people how to help themselves. His drive, spirit, and love for running and fitness inspired the Run For Rob Charity Group, and our mission is to pick up where he left off.

In 2021 Run For Rob started as a group of 10 mates, banding together on the last weekend of November to run various distances between 10km and 60km all in honour of the late Robert McCarthy. Today, in 2026, Run For Rob has now expanded to a wide community connecting people from around the world, with the sole aim of raising awareness of men’s health.

As of 2025, we have raised over $125,000 for Movember, and we hope to continue expanding Run For Rob so we can reach more young men and families and prevent more men from losing their lives to this terrible disease.

We encourage you to watch some of Rob’s videos, which you can find below:
